Can you explain the meaning of "pilotis"?
"Pilotis" are columns or pillars that elevate a building off the ground, creating an open space underneath. This architectural feature is often used to allow for better air circulation, create parking or garden space below, or protect the building from floods.
The term became well-known through the work of the architect Le Corbusier, who used pilotis to give his buildings a lighter appearance and to integrate them more harmoniously with the surrounding environment. When you see a structure that seems to "hover" above the ground on slender supports, those supports are called "pilotis."
